Dr. Corwin A. Thomas was born in Georgetown, Guyana, South America. He came to the United States and lived in Long Island, New York, where he attended high school.
Dr. Thomas graduated from the Pennsylvania State University where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Vertebrate Physiology in December 1990. In May 1995, Dr. Thomas completed his Doctoral degree in Osteopathic Medicine at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, thus, Dr. Corwin A. Thomas, D.O. He matriculated to The Deborah Heart & Lung Center for his cardiology training. He completed a three-year adult clinical cardiology fellowship with extensive experience managing a wide spectrum of cardiovascular diseases. He went on to complete a one year Interventional Cardiology fellowship with experience utilizing most of the current conventional modalities in managing Coronary Artery Disease using Percutaneous Transluminal Coronary Interventions.
During the first two years of practicing Cardiology, Dr. Thomas went on to receive further training and became rather proficient in the management of peripheral vascular disease and the management of cardiac arrhythmias.

In his spare time, Dr. Thomas enjoys the same cardio activities that he recommends for his patients. An avid outdoorsman, he really enjoys hiking and fishing. Dr. Thomas also enjoys friendly competition and is always ready to accept a challenge in basketball, table tennis or badminton. When his schedule allows, you can even find Dr. Thomas testing his limits at local crossfit facilities.

For Dr. Corwin A. Thomas treating patients consists of more than just informing the patient what the problem is and giving medicine to treat it. It is also spending a great deal of time helping each patient to understand their health issues. By doing this, Dr. Thomas believes patients can better understand their disease process and are then knowledgeable on how to create a healthy life.

Dr. Thomas practices Adult Clinical and Interventional Cardiology and manages certain aspects related to Peripherovascular Disease. Dr. Thomas graduated from Pennsylvania State University with his Bachelors of Science in Vertebrate Physiology. He then went on to the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine where he received his Doctor of Osteopathy Degree (D.O.). Osteopathic (D.O.) medical training is identical to medical doctor (M.D.) training with the exception that osteopathic physicians have additional training in manipulative therapies for certain medical issues. For example, Dr. Thomas uses the manipulative therapies to correct malalignments in a patient’s back rather than promote medicines. A holistic approach to medicine is emphasized in osteopathic medical training. Some of the services that Dr. Thomas and his staff provide are cardiac stress tests, heart rhythm management, Cardiac and Vascular ultrasound procedures, holter monitoring, spirometer testing, electrocardiograms, and screening for peripheral vascular disease. Hospital procedures include: angioplasty for peripheral vascular disease, cardiac pacemaker and defibrillator implementation, coronary angiography and angioplasty.
Becoming a doctor was not just a career choice but a heart’s calling. Dr. Thomas grew up in a third world country and witnessed a lot of sickness and poverty. After a seeing the suffering and anguish of those around, Dr. Thomas decided he wanted to position himself to be able to help others. He states that the most rewarding aspect of his job is helping critically ill patients. “I enjoy helping critically ill patients, for example, patients presenting with heart attacks, are able to return to relatively and at times, normal health in a relatively short period of time without the need of any major surgical procedures such as open-heart surgery.” Helping patients afford their medications, however, is the most challenging part of his job.
Dr. Thomas has been recognized for his superiority in his field by receiving the William F. Daiber, D.O., Memorial Award of Excellence in Cardiology. He was recognized as an also the Outstanding College Student of America. Dr. Thomas is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology. He is board certified with the American Board of Internal Medicine, the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine, the Cardiology/Interventional Cardiology and the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology. He is also a board certified Interventional cardiologist trained at performing complex angioplasty- type cardiac procedures.
Patients like the fact that Dr. Thomas is down to earth, warm and friendly. By showing patients that he cares, Dr. Thomas is hoping that he and his staff will be able to get to know the people of Lafayette and continue to provide excellent cardiovascular care, one day at a time.
